magnetic compass calibration
Choose a wide area of water where the magnetic variation of the geomagnetic field changes relatively little, and conduct it when the weather and sea conditions are good.
Understand the structure of the ship's magnetic compass, and distinguish the control knobs corresponding to the longitudinal magnetic rod and the transverse magnetic rod (the pull-in type can be seen intuitively, just remove the fixing plate and move the magnetic rod directly)
Before maneuvering the ship for adjustment, remove the cover plate of the magnetic rod box under the compass and remove the fixing plate by plugging it in.
According to the local magnetic variation, calculate the gyrocompass heading that the ship should take when the magnetic heading is 000 degrees, 180 degrees, 090 degrees, and 270 degrees (gyro compass error is considered zero)
Manipulate the gyro compass heading when the ship's magnetic heading is 000 degrees or 180 degrees. After the heading is stable, adjust the east-west (i.e. transverse) magnetic rod control knob (or pull out a transverse magnetic rod and insert it into other free jacks above and below. You can try it multiple times. Insert or adjust multiple magnetic rods) to make the compass difference zero
Control the ship to travel in the opposite direction, and drive the gyrocompass heading when the magnetic heading is 180 degrees or 000 degrees. After the heading is stable, confirm the current compass difference, adjust the east-west (i.e. transverse) magnetic rod control knob (or pull out a transverse magnetic rod, Insert into other empty jacks above and below, you can try inserting multiple times or adjust multiple magnetic rods) to adjust the compass difference to half
Manipulate the gyro compass heading when the ship's magnetic heading is 090 degrees or 270 degrees. After the heading is stable, adjust the east-west (i.e. longitudinal) magnetic rod control knob (or pull out a longitudinal magnetic rod and insert it into other empty jacks above and below. You can try it multiple times. Insert) so that the compass difference is zero
Control the ship to travel in the opposite direction, and drive the gyro compass heading when the magnetic heading is 270 degrees or 090 degrees. After the heading is stable, confirm the current compass difference, adjust the east-west (i.e. longitudinal) magnetic rod control knob (or pull out a longitudinal magnetic rod, Insert into other vacant jacks above and below (you can try the insertion multiple times) to adjust the compass difference to half
By adjusting the horizontal and vertical magnetic rods when driving in the above four directions, the residual self-difference of the magnetic compass basically reaches a smaller range.
After completing the above steps, tighten each corrector, then re-measure the errors of the eight headings, and draw a magnetic compass self-difference curve table based on the errors.
